After !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! to the Buick Regal, Volvo S60, and Lexus ES300H, my grandmother just brought home a CPO 2014 Cadillac ATS4 with the 2.0T and the Performance package. Yes, my 77 year old grandma now has paddle shifters and Brembo brakes. I couldn’t be happier with her choice, and neither could she!

The jalop runs strong in your family. Most septuagenarians who buy an ATS do it because it’s a caddy of the right size and will go for a base model engine. Your grandma is a good’un.

I’m already thinking it’s too much car for her in that sense. She thou her 200hp Buick that went to 60 in 8 seconds was fast and sporty. This thing gets to 60 in 5.5 seconds. When I drove it I went 2/3 throttle all the way up to 45 and she asked me to please slow down.

Awesome! Ordinarily I would have been disappointed that she hadn’t chosen Volvo but I really like what Cadillac is doing lately and think that they definitely deserve more recognition and sales. Great choice, and I hope that it provides many miles of happiness in the future! (Just don’t ever touch CUE...)

That’s an awesome buy. I just hope the car isn’t too powerful for her, a 78 year old woman driving something like that. Sounds like a disaster waiting to happen. Hope not though. Enjoy the car!

Which leads to another question - why does the stick option disappear when you go for AWD on so many cars?

Off the top of my head here are several somewhat interesting cars that can be had with a stick only if you skip the AWD: 3-series (also 4 and 5?), Regal GS, Juke Nismo, XE (in all likelihood), CX-5.

On the flip-side you can only get an A4 with a manual if you skip FWD and go Quattro.
